The main prerequisite for VOIP call transmission is that the subscriber have a
Broadband internet connection. This, by today's standards, means a Cable or
DSL connection. Broadband is required because VOIP calls consume a significant
amount of bandwidth and they can not be performed effectively on a dialup connection.

The only other requirements are a power supply and a phone (if not integrated into
your hardware device).
